Hey bro, did you do much research before doing this? I mean, seems like you walked right into the same trap a thousand other unsuspecting guys did... and all you had to do to avoid it was read some of the discussion boards or that 'stickman' website (do a search).
And it sounds like your girl was on Yaba... its a lighter Thai version of meth. It allows them to stay thin and work very long hours at the club or karaoke bar or massage place, but the problem is it usually produces those crazy emotional swings you wrote about.
Have your fun, but let girls know upfront you want to "butterfly" and this will signal to them that you're not new to the game and you won't be cornered into anything. It basically means you want to travel from flower to flower with any attachments. It's a term used by the girls themselves, so its a widely understood term- with the connotations that you've been around long enough to not be played like a chump.

And keep in mind that even a good girl (one that works in a normal store or high end hotel as staff) over there doesn't see "love" as a westerner does. They have entirely different concepts of what that means. And for them, it is often a matter of survival, so the money aspect is absolutely intertwined with love. And whether you think its true or not, by virtue of your nationality you are automatically rich.

So, keep writing- the girl adventures and gym reviews are definitely interesting. Navigate the waters over there with care, but not so much that it makes for a boring adventure. Just don't end up being a statistic... and possibly read "Private Dancer" by Stephen Leather.

Best of luck...

You should really watch out. The exact same thing happened to a Canadian guy I know who was in Thailand. His 2-week old "girlfriend" made a death threat and actually followed through by sending five guys to his apartment. The only thing that saved him was the apartment security guard who called the cops as soon as he saw the five guys coming. The cops came and told the Canadian that those guys were all "very bad gang people", and that if he wanted to live he should leave town right away. Right then and there, he shoved everything into his backpack and asked the cops if they could bring him to the airport so he could take the first flight to Phuket. The cops saw how scared he was and felt sorry for him so they drove him to the airport. He never looked back.
